Nuka Cobalt

"Nuka" is a wood ash glaze that has been used historically by Japanese and Korean potters for thousands of years. Potters traditionally used rice hull ashes and fired pottery to temperatures upwards of 2500 degrees F. I have spent years adapting my Nuka glaze recipe to melt at a lower firing temperature, and to utilize local wood ashes from a variety of woods that people use to heat their homes here in Minnesota, US: oak, pine, poplar, maple and more. My goal is to achieve a fluid, rustic surface while maintaining a colorful palette.

$2 from the sale of each piece of Nuka Cobalt Pottery is tracked and donated by Cherrico Pottery, used to attempt to fight cobalt slavery and mining atrocities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where about 70%+ of the world's cobalt is mined from the earth. When you purchase Cherrico Pottery Nuka Cobalt, you will do so with the knowledge that you are making an effort to help create a safer world for every person on the planet.
