All plates come with a hanging device, ready for you to hang them on the wall-- even the "Functional" plates that don't have 24 karat gold. That way, if you decided you do not want to use them for serving food, then you maintain the option of hanging them on the walls as decorative plates.
NOTE: all Moon Plates have imperfections, including but not limited to small cracks and jagged textures, rough areas, dry surfaces, pitted clay or glaze, thin and thick clay walls, warping, wobbling forms, and more. They are part of the art:
- FUNCTIONAL: 100% non-toxic, microwave and dishwasher safe. These plates likely still have imperfections listed above, but they are food safe, non-absorbent and the imperfections will never change. Even if they are warped, have dry surfaces, or have small cracks, they are food safe. We do not add any 24 karat gold, in order to guarantee you can safely use them for food.
- NON-FUNCTIONAL: any plate containing 24 karat gold leaf is non-functional, decorative only. The gold surface will never change, unless you touch it. It is extremely fragile and can scratch if you touch it, so please do not touch it. But, if you do accidentally scratch it, it will still match the rustic qualities of your piece, since the gold was also applied in a rustic fashion. With the hanging device that lets your plate hang safely on a wall, your piece should remain nearly identical forever. If you need to remove dust, brush gently with a dry microfiber cloth only. Gold is used on clay cracks, which are left unfilled, sometimes penetrating all the way through the piece. Cracks are not filled with 24 karat gold, as shown in the photos. Instead, I chose to surrounded the cracks with a brush stroke of 24 karat gold, embellishing the flaw. But, I leave the crack visible. The cracks happened naturally in the clay drying and firing process. Cracks will never grow or change, but will remain forever framed in gold.
- HANGING DEVICE: every Moon Plate comes with a hanging device attached, custom fit to each plate. They are removable, but they are not easy to remove. If you purchase a FUNCTIONAL plate and you do not want the hanging device attached, we are happy to include it free with your order, separate and unattached, but you must email us requesting this before shipment: contact@cherricopottery.com
