NOTE: all Moon Plates have imperfections, including but not limited to small cracks and jagged textures, rough areas, dry surfaces, pitted clay or glaze, thin and thick clay walls, warping, wobbling forms, and more. They are part of the art.
NON-FUNCTIONAL: any plate containing 24 karat gold leaf is non-functional, decorative only. The gold surface will never change, unless you touch it. It is extremely fragile and can scratch if you touch it, so please do not touch it. But, if you do accidentally scratch it, it will still match the rustic qualities of your piece, since the gold was also applied in a rustic fashion. With the hanging device that lets your plate hang safely on a wall, your piece should remain nearly identical forever. If you need to remove dust, brush gently with a dry microfiber cloth only. Gold is used as decoration, sometimes in a unique design over the clay or glaze surface. Other times, it is used on clay cracks, which are left unfilled, sometimes penetrating all the way through the piece. Cracks are not filled with 24 karat gold. You can see in the photos how, instead, I chose to surrounded the cracks with a brush stroke of 24 karat gold. I do not fix the flaw, I embellish it. I leave the crack visible. The cracks happened naturally in the clay drying and firing process. Cracks will never grow or change, but will remain forever framed in gold.
